Coyote Gulch
We went on an amazing 3 day backpacking trip to the Coyote Gulch which is a canyon in the Grand Staircase on the edge of Lake Powell. The pictures don't do the scenery justice. It was absolutely gorgeous! The first day we hiked in 8.5 miles and made it to our camp just beneath the Jacob Hamblin arch. Luckily we had our headlamps because we walked for the last hour in the dark. We had to make it there so we could meet Mike who hiked in first thing in the morning. We ditched our packs and explored the canyon on the second day for about 14 miles. On the third day we hiked out which involved scaling a 600 foot cliff! There was supposed to be a fixed rope to help but it was gone so we had to do it without. There were a few sketchy parts but it was a fun challenge. In the middle my mom psyched herself out and was bear hugging the wall. After a few minutes of coaxing she regained her courage and we made it out alive. We had a blast on our first official trip without kids (kind of pathetic that it took us so long)! Calla and Ashtyn had a great time with Curtis' sisters and when we picked them up Calla didn't want to come home with us. Until next year!
