Ashtyn Paige Holder was born on Thursday, August 26 at 12:22 pm after a relatively short labor. Just like her sister she was a stubborn child who was too comfortable inside. I decided to be induced since she was 8 days late and I was ready to be done being pregnant! The good part about being induced was that I got to have Dr. Panner, my favorite doctor. I had been contracting on and off for about a week prior to her birth and sure enough on the way to the hospital my contractions picked up and I thought maybe she was finally going to come on her own! However, after checking in and getting my water broken at 7am my contractions stopped. After 2 hours of nonstop walking nothing was happening so I started pitocin at 9am. About an hour and a half later I was at a 5 and the contractions felt like they were nonstop. I couldn't get any relief between them so I opted for an epidural. The anesthiologist came and since I was going to the bathroom he left to do another one and said he'd be back soon. Soon ended up being 35 minutes later! Ahhhhhhh! I was an 8 at that point. 15 minutes after the epidural I was a 10 and after only 12 minutes of pushing she was born! I was totally shocked at how quickly everything went once things got started. I had an awesome nurse, Agnes, originally from Libya, who had a great accent. She kept Curtis in line and made some funny comments. Curtis was a great help and wasn't so shell shocked this time. Ashtyn came out looking quite blue and didn't cry for a few seconds but after a quick suction she was pink and happy! She weighed 8 lbs and was 19 1/2 inches long. She had the cutest chubby cheeks and a surprisingly round head. My mom flew in a few hours after she was born, picked up Calla, and came for a visit. Calla was thrilled to meet her new sister and see if she had "pretty blue eyes". We called Ashtyn baby Lyla for the first night but realized that name didn't fit. The next morning we tried calling her Ashtyn and knew it was right. We left the hospital on Friday as soon as possible (I hate the hospital) to begin our new life as a family of four!
