For the past 2 1/2 years Curtis' dad has been battling multiple myeloma. He has dealt with vertebral, ankle, clavicle, rib, ankle, and hip fractures...chemotherapy...a stem cell transplant...ankle, hip, and back surgeries...and countless blood draws (which he is terrified of). Since his stem cell transplant 1 1/2 years ago he has been in remission! Both he and Denise have been such troopers. Denise has a new personal motto that life is to be enjoyed so she decided to take the entire family (11 adults and 10 kids) to Maui for a week! It had been about 2 years since the entire family had been together so we were overdue for a gathering! What an amazing place to have a reunion! We stayed at the Marriott Villas which had full kitchens, washer/dryer, and bbq grills. The resort was amazing and the rooms were only 3 weeks old.
When I asked Curtis what his favorite part of the trip was he said it was jumping off black rock with his dad. Many of Curtis' fondest memories involve his dad and him doing crazy things together. Don isn't afraid of anything (except needles)! We were all snorkeling near black rock checking out the turtles and Curtis decided he wanted to jump off black rock which is about 30ft high. He started walking to the rock and Don said, "I'm coming!" We were all surprised that he was going to attempt the climb up to the rock since he has 2 knee replacements and a hip replacement (which was done only 5 months ago). Don wasn't going to let anything stop him. It was amazing to watch as Don scaled the rocks and made it to the top quicker than Curtis! They both jumped off and we all sighed with relief that they survived. Curtis was so proud to see his dad accomplish something we all thought wasn't possible. We will continue to learn from Don as he continues to overcome the seemingly impossible battles. We love you Don! Thanks for an amazing trip Denise!
